Exhibited in Edinburgh as part of the Pop-Up Cities Expo, The Rotterdam Watershed Pavilion offers an innovative solution to the changing climate.

Designed by Rotterdam-based DoepelStrijkers team, the structure creates a playful water management system with 2.400 recycled peace of rainwater pipes. Perforated pipes are collecting and transferring rainwater to fill the pavilion’s pool. Plants which are growing in and on top of the pipes can also benefit from the collected water.

DoepelStrijkers team indicates that “Rotterdam is famous for its innovative concepts relating to climate adaption and mitigation. Urban development with maximal social and ecological benefits has become part of the city’s sustainable approach over the last decade…The pavilion illustrates in a playful manner how the city of Rotterdam is dealing with the effects of climate change.”

It is estimated that the pavilion will gather 1.500 litres of water.

Lighting the interior of pavilion have been also creating impressive light games.

When it is dark, the LEDs inside the pavillion creates an impressive mood over the pool by the reflection of light.
